Exactly the type of Chinese food you'd expect to have in a farm town... The food is so bad that it has inspired me to start cooking Asian cuisine! Pros: dumplings are good (I guess), General tsos and everything else on the menu is edible Cons: It just isn't that good. :-/ I love Chinese food and I wish there was a restaurant worth going to close by but there isn't. I'm keeping this review as plain as their food. It isn't disgusting, it just isn't very good. I feel like reviewing a Chinese food place in south Lyon is like complaining about not being able to go swimming in December. You know what your getting in to... why expect something different?

We love Fortuna Inn, only have one question! Where are the almonds in the almond boneless chicken?

Tasty chinese food, nothing too amazing, but it's the only place in town for a sit down chinese meal. My boyfriend can't eat gluten and they're very good about helping him figure out what is safe. They'll switch out soy sauce for tamari to make things gluten free for him, too.

This is got to be some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Hand rolled eggrolls that's all I have to say. Good job Fortuna Inn.

One of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. The prices may look a bit steep at first glance of the menu, but when you consider how much food you get, it is well worth the cost. My only real complaint is that the food is almost always too hot when it first comes out. Otherwise a fairly solid choice in South Lyon!

Fortuna used to be hands down the best Chinese food within a 30 mile radius. This was 10 to 15 years ago. The original owners sold the location about 8 years ago and opened a new location in Brighton. Once they sold it, the quality of the food plummeted while the prices raised. The chefs in the back are Hispanic now.. which is kind of an oxymoron to me. Mexicans cooking Chinese food?? Hmm. It would be fine if they had a head chef that directed how good Chinese food should be made.. There is no good Chinese food in SL anymore. Do yourself a favor and go out of town for dinner.

Best egg rolls, egg drop soup, and almond boneless chicken since moving away from south Lyon I realized there is nothing close to compare.

Decent food. Not sure what meat they are using in their Chicken Fried Rice because it's definitely not chicken. It's fake and processed which was disappointing. Chow Mein is good though. I also like that I can order everything minus MSG and customize.

The food is decent, but when weighing in the price and speed China House a mile down seems better.

I've had Fortuna Inn quite a few times because I work so close. The egg rolls are OK, and I've had one of their non-fried dishes, and it was just mediocre for how expensive it is. The sauces that they sell on the side are always a bit too thick, and I've noticed the lack of taste of ginger and garlic in all of them. Every time I see someone who's has gotten "take-out" from there, it's always fried, and by looking at all the comments, it seems like everyone has been just getting the fried chicken pieces like almond chicken. To me, this is just the Americanized version of Chinese cooking. I've had much success ordering from China House. Their soup is better as well as their non-fried dishes. I would not consider this the best Chinese place within 50 miles.

O Fortuna!!! I rise from near sleep with a disturbing question in my mind: if that was the smaller portion of Sweet & Sour Chicken...how large must the large be?? I am fan of the Fortuna Inn. Though it's doorway makes me think of many movies from the 80's in which a madman or thug comes into a restaurant with guns blazing, it is a great little place. The aforementioned Sweet & Sour Chicken is the best I've ever had. And they don't leave you lacking for food. Tonight I had the Sweet & Sour, the Chicken Mushroom Soup (also very good) and some tea. The tea could be stronger. Still, Fortuna is the best place for Chinese cuisine in South Lyon. It's been around a long time, which is an achievement in this town. I give it a solid recommendation.

The last time I went to the Fortuna Inn, they literally served Mexican tortillas as mu-shi skins. When I called them on it they said it was the same thing! I guess most of their clientele isn't familiar with Chinese food. Another problem I had was that there is no separation between the smoking and the non-smoking sections. The put us directly next to a table with heavy smokers.

The hot and sour soup is overpriced, too starchy, and lack ingredients such as pickled mustard and meat. Also the tofu is not fresh. I will never go back there again!

The best Chinese food in all of the U.S. and China combined!! Why is Yelp filtering out all of the good reviews for this place? Anyone from South Lyon knows Fortuna is the best restaurant in town, and a Midwestern treasure!

Awesome! I have been going here since I was a kid, and it still is the best Chinese food I've had! And if you go you must try the egg rolls!!!

Food was excellent. The chicken fried rice was some of the best I have had in a long time and the crispy almond chicken I had was moist and tender.

Best egg rolls in South Lyon. The Chicken Curry soup is delicious. The Sweet and Sour Chicken is best ordered with the sauce on the side otherwise it drowns in a very sweet sauce. If you plan to order a lot of the soup you may want to call ahead. I went and ordered 3 quarts one afternoon and then said.. maybe I will get 4 quarts and the lady there said "Maybe you leave some for somebody else" hahahahaha OMG.. I guess she told me!!!

We ordered take out from Fortuna Inn on Memorial Day. Kudos to them for being open on a holiday, but that's about the only thing good that I can say about them. Easily the worst Chinese food I've had at least in the past 10 years. If I had the choice between their food and airline food, I might actually choose airline food. That's how bad it was. We ordered the following items: -Hot & Sour Soup: This would've been good except they used too much thickening agent-- either flour or corn starch... to the point where the flavor of the thickening agent overwhelmed the flavor of the soup. -Happy Family: The flavor was ok. Typical Happy Family has beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops, and sometimes even squid. Fortuna Inn's Happy Family was just beef, chicken, and tiny, tiny bay scallops. Where's the shrimp?!? -Pork Lo Mein: Has a nice kick of ginger to it and flavor-wise was pretty good. But the noodles were skinny rice noodles. Since when were lo mein noodles skinny? I wonder if they mixed up our order for Singapore noodles? -Sweet & Sour Pork: Significantly overfried... the breading was so hard I couldn't even pierce it with a metal fork. Also, each chunk was mostly breading with very, very little actual meat inside. I felt pretty ripped off on this dish. -General Tso's Chicken: Flavor was pretty good, but the breading had gone completely soggy. This is acceptable for a Chinese buffet, but it really should've been more fresh and at least a little crunchy considered it ordered it take out and should've been made fresh. -Vegetable Fried Rice: This was ok, can't complain about this one. And despite being pretty bad, they're not cheap! Not a good combination.

Head on into Fortuna's fellow Yelpers if you'd like a solid American Chinese dining experience. Located in a strip mall just south of town (next to Ace Hardware) this dated facility produces solid, tasty, hot and pretty good fare. I had the Mongolian chicken lunch which includes soup, tea, egg roll and your choice of rice with the well seasoned protein (all entrees allow individual spice levels: low, medium and high). The attentive service and the cleanliness of the dining area and the bathrooms speak for themselves. Is it great food? No. Is is good and satisfying? Yep. The prices seem average for the area. Since we "eat with our eyes" Fortuna's could invest in minor upgrades to the darkness of the dining room which would, for this diner at least, allow me to enjoy more with my eyes. I'll return when I'm in the South Lyon area.

If you live in South Lyon, this is the place to go for Chinese food. The Almond Boneless chicken is crispy, the crab rangoon is fried golden brown, and the pepper steak contains both peppers AND steak...it's cheap, it's Americanized, and it fills the void in your Chinese food-craving empty belly. Not a place to travel many miles to attend, not a place to avoid like the bubonic plague. Just an all-around acceptable place to get a few tasty goodies.

Middle of the road chinese food. It's not going to rock your socks off, but it isn't inedible either. It has tasted the same for 25 years. Nothing new or exotic. The crab cheese, egg roll and egg drop soup are good, as is the sweet and sour. I don't like anything they have here that uses a brown gravy or sauce. Totally safe, middle of the road food.

Fortuna Inn is the best Chinese restaurant I have eaten at. The almond chicken and the sweet and sour chicken are always fresh. The soup is amazing.

Worst Chinese Food that I've ever had. General's Chicken was bland and gravy like. Chicken was over cooked. Chicken Fried Rice was ok but the chicken was like cubed tofu. Egg Drop soup was extremely thick and gooey with no flavor. Egg Roll was ok. This is the first and last time we get take out.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
